CIRCULAR

SUB: MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT

  1. THE GOVERNMENT SHIPPING OFFICE (G.S.O) IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE INTRODUCTION OF MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT (MR–SID) THROUGH NATIONAL DATABASE AND REGISTRATION AUTHORITY (NADRA) W.E.F. SEPTEMBER 10, 2005.
  2. THE MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT (MR–SID) IS FULLY COMPLIANT WITH INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANISATION CONVENTION (ILO) C-185 AND IS GLOBALLY MACHINE READABLE.
  3. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ALL SEAMEN OBTAIN MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT (MR-SID) BEFORE SIGNING AGREEMENT FOR EMPLOYMENT ON SHIPS (ARTICLE OF AGREEMENT).
  4. SHIPOWNERS / MANNING AGENCIES ARE ADVISED TO EMPLOY CREW WHO ARE IN POSSESSION OF MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT (MR-SID).
  5. THE STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR ISSUE OF MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT (MR–SID) IS ATTACHED AT ANNEXURE – A
THE APPLICATION FORM FOR ISSUANCE OF MACHINE READABLE SEAFARERS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENT (MR-SID). IS ATTACHED AT ANNEXURE –B.

SUB    : SERVICE CHARGES - GOVERNMENT SHIPPING OFFICE  (REVISED)

           The revised service charges of Government Shipping Office as approved by the competent authority and conveyed vide Ministry of Ports & Shipping (Ports & Shipping wing) Karachi,  vide Administrative Order No. 5(11)/98-Sh-III (Vol-I) Pt. dated Karachi 4th October 2011 are appended below for information of all concerned.

5 Opening / Endorsement / Renewal of ship Articles of Agreement. Rs.   1,500
6 Issue of Seaman Service Book (SSB). Rs.   4,000
7  Issue of Seafarers’ Identification Document (MR-SID) Rs.      400
8 Additional charges for the services mentioned above at Serial 3 to 7  
  when rendered, urgent, after office hours and on holidays. Rs.  1,000
9 Issue / Change / Extension / Cancellation of NOC per seafarer. Rs.     100
10 Issue of Medical Examination form to seafarers. Rs.     100
11 Seafarers service record/certificate, amendment / endorsement in  
  SSB etc (except retired and death cases). Rs. 1,000
12 SSB etc (except retired and death cases). Rs. 5,000
  agents License. (lump sum)

The revised service charges are effective immediately with the issue of this circular until further order by the Government.
